The project “Organic Composting Scheme in Rural Communities” introduced composting as a sustainable waste management practice in rural Tirana. Its reduced organic waste sent to landfills, promoted environmentally friendly agricultural practices, and increased community awareness about environmental protection.

Implemented in the villages of Zall Herr, the initiative supported households and farmers to turn organic waste into compost — improving soil quality while contributing to Albania’s Green Agenda goals.

Key Achievements

  • 105 residents trained through workshops on composting and waste reduction.
  • 55 households equipped with composting bins and supported to start composting.
  • 118 students in “Haxhi Korra” School took part in eco-lessons and created the “Clean – Make it Green” campaign.
  • Community events engaged local residents in discussing and solving waste management challenges

Impact

  • Over 100 households started composting.
  • 340+ children and adults gained knowledge on waste and recycling.
  • Organic waste reduced, soil quality improved, and a low-cost composting model developed for replication across Albania.
